Meet Our Members: Rory, Business Development Manager at HeadBox
Introduction
Rory moved to Sydney from the UK with an open mind and a strong work ethic. At HeadBox, he’s helping shape the future of event-tech — one big idea at a time.

Rory has always been drawn to dynamic environments, where strategy meets creativity and no two days look the same.
As Business Development Manager at HeadBox, he’s helping the team expand its footprint in Australia — and playing a key role in introducing bold new offerings to the market. A recent highlight? Closing the company’s very first 3D Studio deal — an AI-driven tool that’s redefining creative production. “Rolling out our 3D Studio concept has been especially rewarding. It’s a cool, original AI tool,” he shares.
Rory started at HeadBox shortly after arriving in Australia — after what he describes as a nerve-racking job search. It was his first time stepping into the events space, but he’s embraced it fully. “Where my previous roles were also Business Development and Sales, the events industry is very new to me. So it’s been interesting finding my feet,” he says.
He admits he didn’t have one specific inspiration that led him to his current path — rather, it was a case of following curiosity. “I’ve always been a very mixed bag. I landed into sales early on, but who knows if I’ll stay on this path.”
What he has learned is that success in sales requires resilience. “Sales is turbulent. There’s highs and lows and no month is the same. Try to always keep a level head and focus on consistency. Your goals will slowly chip away at themselves.”
Outside of work, Rory’s just as driven. He recently achieved his 2025 goal of running a half marathon and is already onto new challenges. “There’s never a dull moment. Long-distance running, beach volleyball, and tennis are all new for this year.”
If he weren’t in business development? “Very hard to pin down. Could be anything from strength and conditioning or physio to media production. In my ideal world, I’m a professional athlete, but perhaps I’ve missed the boat,” he jokes.
Rory’s a music lover too — he plays a bit of guitar and would love to take it further. “I dabble in music, play a bit of guitar but would love to kick on with it.” It’s part of a broader goal to lean into his creative side this year.
He’s a regular at Sushi on Stanley — “never lets me down” — and says one of his favourite Desk Space perks is simple: “The days when Desk Space puts on lunch or an event!”
His favourite reminder to keep life in perspective? “There’s no big reveal coming. This is life. You’re in it.”
As for tools that make the day-to-day more manageable? ChatGPT is a staple in his workflow.
And if you ask Rory what he thinks everyone should experience at least once, he doesn’t hesitate: “The Sopranos. It’s the show that changed TV. On the surface it’s about the mob, but really it’s about life — family, mental health, relationships and masculinity evolving in modern society. It’s incredible.”
